Walt Disney Pictures', Toy Story, is an animated, family comedy that was released in 1995. The film was directed by John Lasseter and was the first feature length film produced by Pixar Animation Studios.
The film is told through two rival toys - Woody and Buzz Lightyear. While their relationship is uneasy at first, this mismatched pair eventually learns to put their differences aside and survive various obstacles, resulting in a beautiful relationship.
Ever wonder what toys do when people aren't around? Toy Story answers that question through a fun, action-packed journey. While the group of toys (owned by a boy named Andy Davis) act lifeless when humans are present, they are full of life in the absence of humans. With Andy's birthday drawing near, the toys plot to discover Andy's new presents. Eventually, Andy receives a new toy - a Buzz Lightyear action figure. Woody, who is the leader, and the rest of the toys live happily in his room until this introduction of Buzz Lightyear.
Because Woody is afraid of being replaced by Buzz in Andy's heart, Woody tries to plot against Buzz any chance he gets. His first ploy is an attempt to trap Buzz in a gap behind Andy's desk. This plan goes horribly wrong when he "accidentally" knocks him out of the window, causing him to be accused by the other toys of murdering Buzz. When Buzz is discovered to be "missing", it is Woody who accompanies Andy to Pizza Planet. But to his surprise - Buzz is not dead and climbs into the car to confront him. The two begin fighting, which causes them to fall out of the car that continues driving without them. Woody then spots a truck heading for Pizza Planet, and seeks to implement his second ploy against Buzz. He convinces him that this will get him to his home planet. Once they arrive, Buzz makes his way to the claw game machine shaped like a spaceship, just as Woody promised. Inside, he comes across squeaky aliens who deem the claw arm as their master. Woody attempts to rescue Buzz, but the aliens force the two towards the claw and they are captured by Andy's neighbor, Sid Phillips, who mistreats and abuses toys.
Earlier, it was announced that Andy and his family would be moving, so the two immediately begin working together to try and escape Sid's house before moving day. After seeing a commercial for Buzz Lightyear action figures, Buzz realizes that he is really a toy. In his attempt to test this, he tries to fly and loses one of his arms, which sends him into a depression. Meanwhile, in attempt to get help from the toys in Andy's room, Woody waves Buzz's arm in the window. However, this backfires and ends up frightening the gang of toys who believe Woody has attacked Buzz. Woody then discovers that Sid's toys are friendly when they reconnect Buzz's arm, and it is actually Sid who is the evil one. Elsewhere, Sid is preparing to destroy Buzz by strapping him to a rocket, but luckily is delayed due to a storm. Woody helps Buzz regain his spirit and the two find common ground when they realize they both make Andy happy. It is Woody, who then rescues Buzz from the rocket with the help of the Mutant Toys (Sid's toys) and scares Sid away by coming to life. He also warns Sid to never torture toys again. The two then part ways from Sid's house and return home through a fence only to see Andy's car driving away to the new house.
Down the road, the two climb onto the moving truck containing Andy's other toys, but Sid's dog chases them and Buzz must tackle the dog to save Woody. The other toys who still are unsure of Woody's motives, toss him out of the truck after he throws RC (one of the toys) out the truck in an attempt to save Buzz. Woody remains persistent and reappears with an alive Buzz (and RC), causing the other toys to realize their mistake and help the pair. Eventually, the two make it into a box in Andy's car, and he is elated to have found his two missing toys.
The end of the film features the toys in the new house on Christmas Day. This time, Buzz and Woody prepare for the new toy arrivals, one of which is Mrs. Potato Head, and the other comes as more of a shock - a new puppy.
